IST specifically works with women and young people in the informal sector, most especially in the markets to organize for collective voice, build their capacity in financial literacy, business development and leadership skills as well as prevention of sexual and gender-based violence in the markets.
IST has worked tirelessly to reduce on the injustice that exists in markets around the country where women who form over 80% of the market vendors are not given chance to participate in leadership roles of their markets. We are currently in 11 markets in 5 districts across the country.
These include; Nakawa, Kalerwe Bivamuntuuyo, Freedom, Kikoni and Ntinda New markets in Kampala, Gulu Main, Cerealeno, and Lacor Markets in Gulu District and one market each in the districts of Iganga, Busia, Arua and Pader.
